The Direct Access Scheme was introduced in 1997. The scheme allows riders over the age of 21+ to train and apply for the "big bike" test therefore missing out the two year restriction applied when passing the test on a 125cc bike.

learners aged 21 or over may practice for the big bike motorcycle test, they may ride any motorcycle on the road which exceeds the UK learner specification but only when accompanied  by an approved motorcycle instructor.

The big bike test {Direct Access} may only be taken by riders aged 21 or over and completed on a motorcycle of at least 35kW (47.6bhp).

When this test is passed the rider can immediately ride any size motorcycle without learner restrictions L Plate torn, and carry passengers.

Practical on road training

Our training will ensure that you are well prepared for the test, covering a variety of roads and traffic conditions. Time will be spend on rider awareness, anticipation, planning, defensive riding, machine control, moving off, observation, meeting and dealing with other road users, overtaking, hazards, riding in traffic, and riding on the open road.

Practical on road test

The motorcycle test will last for approximately 40 minutes and will cover riding in town and more open roads including dual carriageways. The examiner will be in radio contact with you and may follow in either a car or a motorcycle. During the test you will be required to complete a series of compulsory exercises along the route.

The practical test on the road is similar to the 125cc test, although variations for speed, size, position, and forward planning will play an important part in the test preparation.

The training bikes we use is the Kawasaki ER5 (50bhp). If you wish to use your own motorcycle for the test it must be fully insured and taxed & MOT'd.

The outline for training will run parallel to that of a learner motorcyclist in that CBT will still be conducted as standard on the first day of training before progression onto the larger motorcycle.

Practical test can be booked online at www.dsa.gov.uk or by calling the DSA on 0870 01 01 372. If training with us we can book the test for you alternatively call us we may have test dates already booked.
